Saturday went by in a flash – we had the babies back from their foster mum, and also another 5 adult rabbits in for their neutering ops on the 23rd. There are lots of people chasing single neutered females to match with lonely neutered males, and unfortunately the babies have put a spanner in the works somewhat as they are still under the minimum weight for the spay ops (they need to be at least 1kg). This means that although I had potential homes for all of them, there is no going to be a delay until they are heavy enough to send to the vets. I have booked an extra neutering run for the 28th July and that should give the females plenty of time to pile on the lbs! The two little males are going to go with this week’s neutering run as although their “bits” are still playing hide and seek, I am hoping they will be descended enough for the operation (although I am not sure the rabbits will feel the same way about it ...) There will be four adult females going for spay on the 23rd, so maybe there will be enough to go round so long as they all come through their dental checks ok. This organisational nightmare is one side of rescue that not many people know about – it is extremely tiring and stressful trying to organise who is going where and with whom, what room I have to call in more, all bearing in mind the limits that I have to comply with as far as numbers on the day of the neutering ops are concerned. It can all go really smoothly until something happens - like the babies and their weight problem - and then everything has to be re-planned again! Never mind, I should be used to it all by now. Generally it works out for the best, it is just a case of hanging on in there until the dust settles again and order is restored! |
