Sunday 18th July 18 July 2010

There were some strange happenings the other night ...

First, whilst I was getting on the piles of paperwork the other evening (I think it was the 14th July) about 10pm, my husband Francis shouted to me to come out and see something really weird.  He was pointing to the sky in the direction of Salisbury Plain, and there quite clearly was a series of red dazzling lights drifting very quickly up into the sky, and eerily suddenly vanishing completely as if something had been switched off.  Having the capital of UFO sitings very near us (Warminster) our imaginations started to work overtime!  There must have been about 14 of these red ascending lights in total, over a period of about 10 minutes, and although I looked at them through binoculars I couldn't make out what they were at all.

Thinking they must be some kind of aircraft with red after-burners, I went on the internet to find out more.  At this point I started to feel a bit silly, as after a short piece of research I decided that our "secret aircraft" were likely to be chinese lanterns being released!  There is a chinese restaurant in that direction so I suppose that must have been the source, perhaps using the large adjacent car park for the launch.  Isn't it amazing how one's imagination gets carried away!

Whilst we were outside trying to figure out what the mysterious lights were, Francis heard a very odd sniffing noise coming from the garden.  He quickly grabbed a torch and I filmed the following (a clue is in the photo):

They were totally oblivious to the beam of light or our presence, and after a few minutes we left them to it.
